Subaru Symmetrical AWD vs Standard AWD

Few people enjoy driving in hazardous weather conditions. However, when you are faced with driving in terrible weather conditions, Subaru is the make you want to drive. Subaru’s performance exceeds all other vehicles, especially in wintery weather. This is, in part, due to one standard feature found in all Subaru models with the exception of the BRZ. Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is part of the Subaru brand’s commitment to safety. Stop by Subaru of Bend for a comparison of Subaru AWD vs standard AWD.

Standard All-Wheel Drive

All-Wheel Drive, simply put, is when all four wheels of a vehicle have power sent to them at the same time causing them to turn. You will not find the sophistication and optimization of Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive in a basic all-wheel-drive system.

Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD)

With Subaru’s standard Boxer engine design, the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is laid out to produce a more efficient driving experience. Through weight distribution, balance is increased for optimal performance and control. The Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system automatically distributes increased or decreased traction where and when it is needed. Drivers will notice more control when driving Subaru AWD vs standard AWD in Central OR. The standard Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system works seamlessly with other standard safety features like Electronic Brake-force Distribution and Vehicle Dynamics Control to increase control when you’re in the driver’s seat. Thus, granting Subaru drivers with confidence to embark upon dreadful driving conditions, while delivering an outstanding driving experience.

Benefits of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive:

1. Control

Drivers achieve maximum control due to the even distribution between wheels for stability, safety, and driving performance on all terrain.

2. Traction

Subaru’s Boxer engine, combined with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, works strategically to provide driver with optimal traction.

3. Balance

Balance is achieved through Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive’s weight distribution, delivering an ideal driving experience.

4. Power Distribution

As the driver accelerates the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system instantly assess the power and shifts power to rear wheels as power is still being sent to front wheels for smooth acceleration.

5. Simplicity

Fewer parts are used in the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system than are used in competitors’ all-wheel drive systems. This increases efficiency and reduces maintenance costs.

6. Ground Clearance

As a result of the Boxer engine’s flat design paired with the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, Subaru provides a standard ground clearance of 8.7-inches while maintaining a low center of gravity.

Standard All-Wheel Drive (AWD)

Many vehicles have the option to add all-wheel drive. Many of them monitor the systems with the use of sensors to observe the loss of traction prior to increasing or decreasing traction. With the Subaru AWD vs standard AWD drivers will notice with standard all-wheel drive there may not be enough time to regain control and traction once the wheels begin to slip.

Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system paired with Subaru’s Boxer engine, increases control and efficiency through a low center of gravity. This technology along with consistent commitment to a safe driving experience has made Subaru’s vehicles legendary. Experience the Subaru Symmetrical AWD difference when you test drive a Subaru at Subaru of Bend. Learn more about Subaru AWD vs standard AWD and the benefits of Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive by experiencing it yourself on a test drive today.

Subaru vs Audi and BMW in Bend OR: Can Subaru Beat its Luxury Competitors?

When comparing Subaru vs Audi and BMW in Bend OR, which luxury brand would you choose? All three are well known brands and each excels at producing vehicles with dependable engines and beautiful interiors as well as desirable features. For many years there has been major competition among several of these auto manufacturers. Let’s see what they have to offer! This comparison will also provide a guide packed with knowledge to narrow down what vehicle will fit your evolving lifestyle.

Subaru

Subaru is in its own class of luxury. All Subaru vehicles come standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel drive. All-season tires are standard in every Subaru vehicle. You will have the luxury of 8.7-inches of ground clearance in any Subaru vehicle that fits your lifestyle. Drivers will also have the option of a 2.4-liter turbocharged Subaru Boxer engine. The cargo volume is 32.5 cubic feet, providing passengers with ample space to sit comfortably. Subaru drivers will also notice the recommended fuel requirement is unleaded gasoline (87 octane). Once you have filled up your tank you can expect to get 26/33 MPG*. When it comes to technology, Subaru goes beyond the expectations of consumers to stay true to their ongoing commitment to protecting those you love. They provide STARLINK Multimedia, Safety, and Security, EyeSight Driver Assist (which helps achieve 85% less rear-end crashes with injury), DriverFocus, Bluetooth, Navigation, and more.

Audi

Audi offers optional all-wheel drive with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. Audi vehicles have up to 8.2-inches of ground clearance, meaning the center of gravity is much higher than in the Subaru. They are known to have high service and repair costs as well. The average cargo volume of the Audi crossovers is 25.1 cubic feet, providing passengers with limited seating space and a less-than-pleasant ride. Audi drivers will notice an additional expense when going to the pump as well. The recommended fuel is premium gasoline (91-94 octane). After filling the tank, Audi crossover owners will get an estimated 22/27 MPG, falling short of the Subaru. Technology options include Audi pre sense basic, pre sense city, side assist, rear cross traffic assist, vehicle exit warning, and park steering assist.

BMW X5

BMW offers xDrive, which is an all-wheel drive system. However, it is not standard in all vehicles like the Subaru Symmetrical AWD is. Drivers also have the option of a 2.0-liter turbo engine. BMW offers an 8-inch ground clearance and a center of balance that makes sharp turns more difficult. Cargo volume in the BMW crossovers is about 28.7 cubic feet, providing sufficient seating space for passengers. When visiting the pump, BMW recommends premium fuel (91-94 octane), so filling up the tank costs far more than filling up a Subaru. Drivers will get an estimated 23/30 MPG. Let’s talk technology! BMW offers a variety of optional features such as EfficientDynamics (energy management) and Engine Technology.

When thinking of luxury vehicles like Subaru vs Audi and BMW in Bend OR you expect them to meet the needs of your evolving lifestyle. Luxury doesn’t necessarily have to mean more expensive – it means having all that you want and expect. We expect better quality and the most sophisticated safety technology without having to pay more. Buyers will notice that BMW vehicles start at $41,950 and Audi vehicles start at $42,950 while Subaru’s starting price is $26,645. What defines luxury in a vehicle mean for you and your family? If luxury is an elegant, sleek exterior design, stylish, comfortable, spacious interior, and superior safety features, then luxury is a Subaru! Winter is Coming to Salem OR – is Your Car Prepared?

The Warden of the North tells us winter is coming to Salem OR. Winter driving presents many challenges, such as poor visibility and slippery roads. These poor conditions drastically increase the risk of accidents. Did you know it takes 10 times longer to stop on ice- and snow-covered roads? According to FHWA 2019, icy, slushy, or snowy pavement is responsible for 24% of vehicle crashes. Wintery weather is responsible for 116,000 injuries and over 1,300 deaths every winter, reported by Safe Winter Road, 2019.

Best Winter Tires Near Eugene OR

Winter Tires

Are you debating on purchasing snow tires for this winter? Snow tires are designed for cold temperatures, not just for snow. In the United States about 97% of tires are “All Seasons,” which are not designed for winter driving.

For the best priced winter tires near Eugene OR visit Subaru of Bend. Your Subaru will perform excellently in various temperatures and conditions. However, areas with regular accumulation of ice and snow will require winter tires. Winter tires spin and slide less on slippery surfaces.

Just as you would perform better in the proper shoe for running or hiking, your Subaru will perform at its best if it has the proper tires. Subaru of Bend will meet or beat any tire price. We are a stud dealer, so I guess you can say we’re “studly.” Studded snow tires have metal pins inserted into their treads. This allows you to have rubber and steel meeting the road, providing better traction. If you live in a snowy area, we recommend “studly” snow tires.

Summer Tires

Summer tires have shallow treads that limit wobble through hard turns. They are used on sports cars and have soft rubber and fewer grooves to maximizes contact with the road. In cold temperatures the rubber becomes hard. Since these tires have fewer grooves there is less space to squeeze out rain and snow. Summer tires produce more noise, wear out more quickly, and need to be replaced in spring and fall.

All Season Tires

All season tires are the most common type of tire. They are low noise tires and last a relatively long time. These tires can be used year-round without the hassle of changing them. All season tires do not grip warm asphalt as well as a summer tire and do not grip snow or direct water as well as snow tires, but they eliminate the need to change tires throughout the year if you live in a warmer climate.

Snow Tires

Snow tires are also known as “winter tires.” They have narrow grooves that noticeably increase the amount control on icy roads. This type of tire performs better on ice and snow due to slits called sips. The sips act as thousands of biting edges on ice that help with acceleration, deceleration, and stopping. They squeeze out more rain and snow, reducing sliding on slippery surfaces for shorter braking distances. Snow tires typically produce more noise and may need to be swapped in spring and fall. Visit us at Subaru of Bend to purchase your “studly” winter tires for the best priced winter tires near Eugene OR.

Studded Tires

Studded snow tires have metal studs embedded into the treads. They are small pieces of metal designed to dig into the ice and snow, providing added traction. These tires can sometimes damage the roads due to their strong studs digging into pavement, so discuss your options with us to make sure you choose the best tire for your needs.

For the best priced winter tires near Eugene OR and the most “studly” tires, visit Subaru of Bend. We offer studded tires to provide better traction on snowy roads and we will meet or beat any tire price. If you’re looking for the perfect new tires for your Subaru or just don't want to slide on the road, contact us at Subaru of Bend to learn about all the best tire options.

The Importance of Used Car Maintenance in Central OR

Anyone who has worked on cars will tell you not to ignore regular used car maintenance in Central OR. Unfortunately, most car owners do. Some of them believe that having their cars checked regularly for maintenance costs too much. Other car owners are just unaware of what needs to be done or how often to have it checked.  This leads to drivers taking their used cars in for service only when something goes wrong, resulting in costly repairs.
Regular used car maintenance in Central OR is a preventive measure, not a last resort. It can also be considered a safety measure to avoid accidents or safety issues. Maintenance and service should not be ignored and should be scheduled regularly to inspect the car for any faulty areas or to provide preventative services. This can save you from spending thousands of dollars on repairs down the road by catching small issues before they become major problems. To help get started, here are some basic car maintenance checks you can do on your own or with the help of our service staff.
We always recommend taking your used car to the dealership for inspections, maintenance, and repairs to be completed by a certified technician. This will ensure the work is done correctly and safely to keep your vehicle in proper working condition. These tips are intended to give drivers an idea of what to keep an eye on between scheduled maintenance intervals and potential issues to be aware of that sometimes arise on used cars.

Read and understand your car’s manual

Understand your car better by reading its manual. This guide will tell you how to correctly use all the vehicle’s features. Also included in the manual will be a recommended maintenance schedule. The recommended maintenance schedule in the manual should be followed strictly to prolong the life of the car. When possible, this maintenance should be done by a certified technician or mechanic.
Some other information you can find in the manual may include the type of fuel and the octane level your car requires. Filling it up with the wrong fuel may cause damage to your car.

Make it a habit to inspect your car

Make it a habit to inspect your car regularly, especially before travelling. Doing this periodically can help you spot anything irregular or dangerous. Check your headlights and make sure they are working properly. Tire air pressure and tire tread should be checked monthly as well. This is easy to do with a tire gauge purchased from your local auto parts store or from Subaru of Bend and with a penny. Maintaining ideal tire pressure helps the car get better gas mileage. For more information on how to check your tire pressure or tread depth, contact the Subaru of Bend Service department.

Learn to check your car’s fluid levels

Learn to check your car’s antifreeze, coolant, power steering fluid, and wiper fluid levels. In some cases, you can easily check these levels with a dip stick, fill line, or gauge. If you find the fluid low, add more or drain and refill it. It is also important to check for leaks – if you are refilling any fluids too frequently there could be a leak in the reservoir. Never ignore a leak during used car maintenance in Central OR

Change your oil regularly

You should frequently check your oil color and level, as oil is one of the most important factors in keeping your car running for years. Knowing whether the oil is muddy or murky will help you diagnose any engine problems before they escalate to something worse. Understand how to differentiate between clean oil and old oil by asking a technician to show you the difference during your next oil change. Check your manual to find out how often you should have your oil changed.

Check your batteries and clean any build up that’s present

Check your car batteries regularly especially during used car maintenance in Central OR. You should learn how to do a simple inspection on it to make sure there is no leak or mineral build-up. If you notice any, bring it in to Subaru of Bend to have a technician clean it with a battery cleaning brush. It’s also recommended to keep a battery tester or jump starter to test the battery on your own.

Inspect and replace the belts

Review your manual to see how often you should replace your serpentine and timing belts. It can give you an exact recommendation as to when you should have new belts installed. This should always be done by a certified technician or mechanic at certain intervals defined in your manual. Waiting too long to replace these belts could lead to costly repairs and may even leave you stranded on the road.

Replace windshield wipers when necessary

Windshield wipers are inexpensive and easy to replace. Don’t wait until they are so worn you can’t see in the rain. Visibility is important in helping you avoid a crash.

Change Spark Plugs

A damaged spark plug puts your engine at risk. It may also lead you to spend more money on fuel or may even lead to a breakdown. If your spark plugs are worn out or covered with build-up, replace them immediately.
Visit our Service department at Subaru of Bend for any of your repair or maintenance need. Our certified technicians will ensure your car is kept in top shape!
